EmpowHERing Young Black/Brown Girls

 

As Black History Month comes to an end and Women’s History Month begins, Kiddie Coiffure LLC wants to pour into young Black/Brown girls who often encounter discrimination while wearing natural hairstyles. We will offer free hair services by raffle.

Did you know that Black/Brown girls “are three to six times more likely to be suspended or expelled from school” because their natural hair is considered a distraction?

​

Too many times, we see in the news or experience firsthand the bullying our young Black/Brown girls endure while embracing their natural curls and coils. Girls like Vanessa VanDyke (Florida) and Promise Sawyers (Tennessee) should not feel shame for wearing their natural hair. We must teach our young Black/Brown girls the historical, cultural, and spiritual symbolism of our curly/coily tresses and remind them that "My Hair is Beautiful", flowing freely, or woven into braids. We must empowHER our future female leaders to be their authentic and natural self.

Kiddie Coiffure’s Advocacy Plan:

​

During Women’s History Month (March 2023), Kiddie Coiffure LLC introduces our "My Hair is Beautiful" t-shirt and we will deploy our 1st Annual “My Hair is Beautiful” Raffle for Black/Brown girls. Anyone who purchases a t-shirt will be entered into the raffle. The winner(s) of this raffle will receive a free hair service.

• Second Prize – Hair Service (Value up to $60)

• Third Prize – Hair Service (Value up to $30)

 

​How To Enter:

​

Click on SHOP in the main menu to purchase your t-shirt(s). At checkout, in the ADD A NOTE space please enter:

1. Your contact information (name and email address/phone number)

2. The name and age of the Black/Brown girl you would like to support.

   • Must live in/near Youngsville, NC, or willing to travel

   • Must be school-age (K-12)

3. If you do not know a young girl that meets the above qualifications, you can still support. Kiddie Coiffure will award a deserving young girl in Youngsville, NC, or a surrounding area.

 

T-shirts are $15 each.

 

T-shirt sales will begin on Wednesday, March 1, and continue through Thursday, March 31.

The drawing will take place on Friday, April 1, 2023.
